Planning Permission

Brentham is an Article 4 Conservation Area, which means that almost all changes to a Brentham home or building need planning permission before they can be carried out.

A good starting point for anyone planning to make a change to a Brentham house is the Appraisal for Brentham produced by the Planning Department at Ealing Council. It provides a brief summary of the special architectural features of the area and offers guidance on the considerations that need to be taken into account for proposed alterations. It’s a good idea too to contact the Brentham Society, which has considerable experience about the sorts of changes that are permitted and and is happy to offer free initial advice.

We’ve compiled some practical hints for anyone thinking of making changes to their home.

To apply for planning permission you will need to complete a planning consent application form, which can be downloaded from the Council’s website. If the work involves removing a tree you will need to submit a second form too. There is a separate application form for flat owners. Please note that in certain cases, if the application for changes to your house is being made under Article 4 requirements, no fee will be necessary - for more information please contact the Planning Department on 020 8825 6600.
