Join the BMWs - Tuesdays & Thursdays at 8.00am

Join the Brentham Morning Walkers on their twice weekly walks round Pitshanger Park, every Tuesday and Thursday morning. The BMWs estimate the walk is approximately 3,000 steps long – a third of one’s daily target.  Not only do the BMWs enjoy the exercise, the fresh morning air and the changing scenery, but they also discuss films, theatre and anything else that is topical. Road Humps Victory - For Now

Following a detailed submission from the Brentham Society and a 500-signature petition presented to a full Council meeting, Ealing's Area Committee has agreed to exclude Brentham roads from the proposed Birkdale Road/Mount Avenue 20 mph zone. This is excellent news, but it isn't the end of the story. Part of our case to the Council was that Ealing's Transport Planners should consult us, and the PCA, about appropriate alternative traffic controls that address the problems we have and take into account the sensitivities of our Conservation Area. Brentham Society Chair Tony Miller is in touch with Ealing and with the PCA to make sure this happens.

Street Lights in Brentham - Do We Have a Choice?

The Council is part way through a 5-year renewal programme that aims to replace all street lights across the borough. At the AGMs of the Brentham Society and Brentham Heritage Society in October 2006, Brentham Chair Tony Miller gave a presentation on what Brentham might look like when the street lights are replaced. There are several designs to choose from. What do you think of the options?  Do we have a choice?

 A Blue Plaque for Brentham?

In May 2007 the Brentham Heritage Society submitted a proposal to English Heritage for a Blue Plaque for 223 Pitshanger Lane, former home of 1930s’ Wimbledon superstar Fred Perry. Although a Plaque cannot be erected until 2009 – the centenary of Perry’s birth – and English Heritage only awards about 20 plaques nationwide each year, the BHS is confident its case is a strong one. Roger Parry, Chief Executive of the Lawn Tennis Association, has formally endorsed the application, which contains compelling evidence that Brentham is where young Fred discovered and then developed his exceptional sporting abilities.

What do you Know about the History of your House?

If you know something interesting about the history of your house please let the web editor know. The Brentham website has a page with historical information for every house and building in Brentham, including the name of the architect and the date the plan was approved – but we are hoping to add more. Has someone famous lived in your home? Is your house one of the few that had an oak floor when it was first built?

Roof Insulation

Several householders in Brentham may be taking advantage of the Council-supported home insulation programme (Heatstreets) being run by Powergen.  If you are having your roof re-covered, or are installing roof insulation, there are issues to bear in mind to avoid subsequent problems, particularly with issues of ventilation in the roof space. The Brentham Conservation Area Advisory Panel has produced two guidance notes, “Re-covering Roofs” and “Loft Insulation and Roof Ventilation”. Copies can be sent or emailed to you by contacting the Advisory Panel or the Brentham Society.

Information Packs for New Residents

The Brentham Society has recently updated its information pack for new residents. If you are a Brentham resident and would like one, or if you would like to join a a working group to look at ways of "future-proofing" the packs so that they remain useful and interesting to residents, please contact us..
